About
Dr. Edward G. McKeown
The “Doc” in Doc Bear is a doctorate.
Edward G. McKeown is a Marine Corps veteran with a Ph.D. from Purdue University, where his doctoral research and specialization were in food safety. He is ServSafe certified and has spent thirty years in hospitality, food safety and teaching. He writes and cooks as Doc Bear, and he builds and maintains every platform that carries the name.
Education and credentials
Thirty years of the same subject, studied at four institutions. Hotel administration at UNLV, with foodservice sanitation running through both degrees. A Certificate in Hotel Food & Beverage Management at Pima. A doctorate at Purdue whose research and specialization were in food safety. The software degrees came last, and they are the reason this app exists rather than being an idea described to somebody else.

The cookbooks
Four volumes of Doc Bear’s Comfort Food Survival Guide, written and tested long before any of this was an app. The recipe library in Doc Bear's Comfort Kitchen comes from these books rather than from a scrape of the internet, which is why the measurements behave like a cook wrote them.
Volume I: Survive the Comfort
The foundational savory book.
Volume II: With added Vegan, Keto, and Allergen Free
The dietary-variant versions of the Volume I dishes.
Volume III: Just Desserts
The baking and dessert book.
Volume IV: Cooking Up Fun!
A children’s cookbook. One hundred percent of the profits are donated to The Grottoes International Humanitarian Foundation: Dental Care for Special Needs Children.
All four volumes, with buy links
Where the expertise shows up
Every recipe published here is attributed to him, and the food safety guide is his own writing rather than a summary of somebody else’s. If you want to see what that looks like in practice, the published recipes carry cooking temperatures where a temperature matters.
Doc Bear's Comfort Kitchen is published by Doc Bear Enterprises, LLC in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
