1. OUR SERVICES
Our Services include food inventory management, recipe discovery and importing, AI-powered recipe scaling, international barcode scanning, receipt scanning, voice input, nutrition analysis, recipe costing, price tracking with multi-currency support, meal planning and shopping lists.
The information provided when using the Services is not intended for distribution to or use by any person or entity in any jurisdiction or country where such distribution or use would be contrary to law or regulation, or which would subject us to any registration requirement within such jurisdiction or country. Those who access the Services from other locations do so on their own initiative and are solely responsible for compliance with local laws.
2. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
Our intellectual property
We are the owner or licensee of all intellectual property rights in our Services, including all source code, databases, functionality, software, designs, audio, video, text, photographs and graphics in the Services (the "Content"), as well as the trademarks, service marks and logos contained therein (the "Marks"). Our Content and Marks are protected by copyright and trademark laws and treaties around the world, and are provided in or through the Services "AS IS" for your personal, non-commercial use or internal business purpose only.
Doc Bear's™ is a trademark of Doc Bear Enterprises, LLC.
Your use of our Services
Subject to your compliance with these Legal Terms, including "PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES" below, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:
- access the Services; and
- download or print a copy of any portion of the Content to which you have properly gained access, solely for your personal, non-commercial use or internal business purpose.
Except as set out here or elsewhere in our Legal Terms, no part of the Services and no Content or Marks may be copied, reproduced, aggregated, republished, uploaded, posted, publicly displayed, encoded, translated, transmitted, distributed, sold, licensed, or otherwise exploited for any commercial purpose without our express prior written permission.
Requests for other uses should be addressed to: privacy@docbear-ent.com. If we grant permission, you must identify us as the owners or licensors and ensure any copyright or proprietary notice remains visible.
We reserve all rights not expressly granted. Any breach of this section is a material breach and your right to use the Services terminates immediately.
Your data and your recipes
Your food data. You retain ownership of your food inventory data, custom recipes, meal plans and shopping lists. By using the Services you grant us a license to store, process and display this information as necessary to provide the Services to you, and for no other purpose.
Recipes you publish. If you publish a recipe so that other users can see it (Section 10), you warrant that you have the right to do so, and you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce and distribute it within the Services for as long as it remains published. This license ends when you un-publish the recipe or delete your account, except that copies other users have already saved to their own collections remain with those users.
Feedback. By sending us a question, comment, suggestion, idea or other feedback about the Services ("Submissions"), you agree we may use and share it for any purpose without compensation or acknowledgement.
You are responsible for what you submit. By submitting anything through the Services you:
- confirm you have read and will comply with "PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES", and will not submit content that is illegal, harassing, hateful, harmful, defamatory, obscene, bullying, abusive, discriminatory, threatening, sexually explicit, false, inaccurate, deceitful or misleading;
- warrant you have the necessary rights and licenses to submit it;
- to the extent permitted by law, waive any moral rights in it;
- warrant it is original to you or that you have the rights to submit it; and
- warrant that it is not confidential information.
You are solely responsible for your submissions and agree to reimburse us for any losses we suffer because of your breach of this section, any third party's intellectual property rights, or applicable law.
3. USER REPRESENTATIONS
By using the Services, you represent and warrant that:
- you have the legal capacity to agree to these Legal Terms and you agree to comply with them;
- you are at least 13 years of age. If you are under 13, you may not use the Services;
- if you are under 18, you have provided a parent's or guardian's email address, and you accept that they may set controls on your account as described in Section 6, Section 7 and Section 10;
- if you are a parent or guardian setting controls for a user under 18, you confirm you are that person's parent or legal guardian and agree to be bound by these Legal Terms in relation to that account;
- you will not access the Services through automated or non-human means, whether by bot, script or otherwise;
- you will not use the Services for any illegal or unauthorised purpose;
- your use of the Services will not violate any applicable law or regulation;
- any recipe you publish is original to you or you have the rights to share it;
- you will not enter false or misleading food inventory information that could affect the safety or accuracy of meal planning features;
- if you are under 18, you will not include personal information about yourself or anyone else in a recipe you publish;
- you understand that all content in the Services is intended for users 13 and older;
- you understand that voice input is converted to text by your device's own operating system, which depending on your device, language and settings may perform that conversion on Apple's or Google's servers rather than locally, and you consent to microphone access when you use voice features;
- you will not attempt to record or capture other users' voice interactions;
- you understand that content you submit for AI processing — recipe text, video links, receipt photographs, ingredient lists — is sent to a third-party AI provider to be read, and you consent to that processing when you use those features;
- you will provide accurate price information when using price tracking features;
- you understand that barcode scanning shares product codes with third-party databases, and you consent to that; and
- you will not use AI recipe scaling to create content that infringes others' intellectual property rights.
If you provide information that is untrue, inaccurate, not current or incomplete, we may suspend or terminate your account and refuse any current or future use of the Services. Where the account belongs to a user under 18, we will also notify the parent or guardian on file.
Responsibilities of a parent or guardian
Where applicable law, our age-assurance process, or the settings for a particular account require involvement by a parent or legal guardian, the parent or guardian agrees to:
- supervise the child's use of the Services as they consider appropriate;
- review and manage any parental controls or permissions we make available for features such as voice input, AI-enabled features, or publishing;
- keep any parental-control PIN or similar credential confidential and not knowingly provide it to the child;
- provide accurate information when confirming parental or guardian status;
- contact us if they wish to close the child's account or have concerns about its use; and
- assist the child in complying with these Legal Terms where appropriate.
Where applicable law requires parental authorization or consent for the processing of a child's personal information, we may require additional steps reasonably designed to verify that the authorization was provided by a person with parental responsibility. Merely providing a parent or guardian email address does not, by itself, constitute verified parental consent where verification is legally required.
Nothing in this section limits any rights that a child may exercise independently under applicable law as the child becomes legally capable of doing so.
4. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES
You may not access or use the Services for any purpose other than that for which we make them available. You agree not to:
- Systematically retrieve data or content from the Services to build a collection, compilation, database or directory of recipes or food data without our written permission — including scraping recipes published by other users in Discover;
- Submit false or misleading food inventory information that could impact food safety or dietary recommendations;
- Upload or publish recipes you do not own the rights to, or that infringe others' intellectual property;
- Provide video URLs to content you do not have the right to process or whose processing violates the video platform's terms;

- Upload content containing allergen information that is knowingly false or misleading;
- Attempt to record, store or transmit voice input from other users;
- Use voice input to enter inappropriate, offensive or harmful content;
- Attempt to bypass microphone permission requirements;
- Submit content to our AI features that you do not have the right to submit, or that is designed to manipulate or extract the underlying model;
- Submit false or misleading price information;
- Attempt to manipulate price tracking calculations or create artificial price trends;
- Use barcode scanning to identify products for purposes other than personal inventory management, or extract barcode databases for commercial use;
- Use AI recipe scaling to create derivative works that infringe others' copyrighted recipes;
- Attempt to bypass regional restrictions or access databases not intended for your location;
- Trick, defraud or mislead us or other users, especially to obtain account information such as passwords;

- Attempt to bypass measures designed to prevent or restrict access to the Services;
- Copy or adapt the Services' software;
- Except as permitted by law, decipher, decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer any software making up part of the Services; or
- Use the Services to compete with us, or for any revenue-generating endeavour or commercial enterprise.
5. ACCOUNTS, SUBSCRIPTIONS AND PAYMENTS
Your account
You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly at privacy@docbear-ent.com if you believe your account has been compromised.
Free and paid tiers
Some features are available only on a paid subscription tier. The features included in each tier, and any usage allowances, are shown in the application at the time of purchase and may change as described in Section 17.
For accounts belonging to users under 18, buying a subscription stays off until a parent or guardian turns it on.
Where you buy matters
- Apple App Store and Google Play. Purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Billing, renewal and cancellation are managed through your Apple or Google account, subject to that store's terms. We cannot cancel or refund a store subscription on your behalf — you must do so through the store.
- Our website. Purchases are processed by Stripe. You may cancel from your account settings.
Auto-renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, unless cancelled before the renewal date. Cancel through the channel you purchased from, at least 24 hours before the period ends where that store requires it.
Refunds
Refunds for store purchases are governed by that store's policy. For purchases made through our website, contact us; we will consider refund requests in accordance with applicable consumer protection law, and nothing in these Terms limits any statutory right of withdrawal or refund you may have.
Price changes
We may change subscription prices. Where we do, we will give notice as required by applicable law and by the relevant app store, and the change will not take effect until your next renewal.
Ending a subscription
If your subscription ends, your account and data remain, but features included only in the paid tier stop working. We do not delete your data because a subscription lapsed.
6. VOICE INPUT TERMS
Voice input lets you add inventory items, build meal plans and search by speaking. By using it you acknowledge and agree:
Microphone access and consent
- Voice input requires microphone permission on your device
- You must grant that permission explicitly, and can withdraw it at any time in your device settings
- Speech-to-text conversion is performed by your device's own operating system. Whether that conversion happens on the device itself or on Apple's or Google's servers is determined by your device, your language and your device settings, and is outside our control
- Audio never reaches our servers. We do not record, store or transmit audio files
Users under 18
- Voice input is switched off for accounts belonging to users under 18 until a parent or guardian enables it
- A parent or guardian may switch it off again at any time, from the control panel we email them or, using the PIN we send them, from within the app
- When switched off, the microphone is removed from the app rather than merely disabled
Accuracy and limitations
- Recognition accuracy varies with device, environment, accent and speech patterns
- You are responsible for reviewing voice input results before saving them
- Voice recognition may be unavailable offline, depending on your device
Appropriate use
- Use voice input only for legitimate inventory management and search
- Do not use it to enter inappropriate, offensive or harmful content
- Respect the privacy of people around you
Third-party processing
Speech recognition is provided by your operating system vendor. Your use of voice features is also subject to their terms and privacy policy.
7. AI FEATURES: RECIPE IMPORTING, RECEIPT SCANNING, NUTRITION AND SCALING
Several features use a third-party artificial intelligence provider. By using them you acknowledge and agree:
What is sent, and to whom
Our AI sub-processor is OpenAI, L.L.C. Depending on the feature you use, we send: recipe text from a web page you supply; the description and captions of a public cooking video you supply and, where those hold no recipe, its audio for transcription and sampled frames; a photograph of a printed recipe; a photograph or PDF of a receipt; the ingredient list of a recipe being analysed or scaled; or ingredient names with prices you recorded.
AI processing is optional. You may withdraw consent at any time in Privacy & Data, and the rest of the app continues to work. For accounts belonging to users under 18, AI features stay off until a parent or guardian turns them on, and the parent can turn them off again at any time.
Receipt scanning
- Receipt images are processed in memory and passed to our AI sub-processor to be read
- We do not store the receipt image. We keep only the line items you choose to save
- Extracted items, quantities and prices are suggestions — review them before saving
- Receipt scanning is not available to users under 16
Recipe importing
- You are responsible for having the right to import the content you supply
- Imported recipes may be inaccurate, incomplete, or in a different language from the source page
- Review an imported recipe before relying on it, particularly ingredient quantities and any allergen-relevant content
Nutrition analysis and recipe scaling
- Nutritional figures are estimates generated from ingredient text and are not a substitute for professional dietary advice or product labelling
- Scaled recipes are suggestions; complex recipes may not scale proportionally, and cooking times, temperatures and equipment should be verified
- Unit conversions are provided for convenience and should be verified for precision cooking
- You are responsible for food safety when preparing a scaled or imported recipe
Intellectual property in AI output
- A scaled or imported recipe remains subject to the original recipe's copyright and licensing
- You may not use these features to create derivative works that infringe others' rights
- Commercial use of an imported or scaled recipe may require permission from the original creator
8. INTERNATIONAL FEATURES AND BARCODE SCANNING
We support EAN-8, EAN-13, UPC-A and GTIN-14 barcodes and draw product information from third-party databases including Open Food Facts, USDA and regional sources.
- By scanning a barcode, you consent to sharing the product code with those databases
- Product information accuracy depends on the third-party database and varies by region
- You are responsible for verifying product information, especially allergen and dietary data
- We may detect your general region from your device settings to prioritise relevant databases; you can override this in your profile
- Some features may be unavailable in some countries due to data availability or legal restrictions
- International features are provided "as-is"
9. PRICE TRACKING, RECIPE COSTING AND CURRENCY FEATURES
- You are responsible for the accuracy of prices you enter
- Trends and averages are calculated from the data you provide, and we do not guarantee them
- Prices vary by location, store and time; our figures are for your reference only
- Recipe costing, cost per serving, and menu-engineering figures are calculated from prices you supplied and are not financial, business or investment advice
- Currency conversion rates come from third-party services, may not be real-time, and are for reference only
- Budget features are for personal reference; you are responsible for your own finances
Price tracking, costing and receipt features are not available to users under 16.
10. PUBLISHING RECIPES AND DISCOVER
Your recipes are private by default. A recipe you create or import is visible only to you unless you choose to publish it.
Publishing. When you publish a recipe it appears in Discover, where any signed-in user can browse or search for it. Your account name is shown as the author.
Do not publish personal information. Do not include your full name, address, school, workplace, telephone number, email address or other contact details in a recipe you publish — your own or anyone else's.
Un-publishing. You may make a published recipe private again at any time. Copies other users have already saved into their own collections remain with them.
Ratings and reviews. You can rate and review a published recipe. Your rating, your review and your account name are shown to everyone who can see that recipe.
Moderation, reporting and blocking. We may review, refuse, restrict or remove any published recipe, rating or review at our discretion, including content that breaches Section 4 or the standards in Section 2, and we may suspend or terminate the account that posted it (Section 16). You can report a published recipe or a review from within the app, and we review reports promptly. You can also block another user, which hides their recipes and reviews from you. They are not told. You can unblock them in Privacy & Data.
Users under 18:
- Users aged 13 to 15 cannot publish recipes.
- Users aged 16 and 17 can publish once their parent or guardian has turned publishing on. When a parent switches publishing off, any recipes already published are made private immediately. Switching publishing back on does not republish them automatically.
- Every time a user under 18 turns publishing on for a recipe, we remind them not to include personal details.
Sharing outside the app. You can send a recipe to another app on your device using your device's share feature. Once a recipe leaves the Services this way it is governed by the receiving app's terms, not ours, and we cannot recall it.
11. USER GENERATED CONTRIBUTIONS
The Services allow you to create, submit, publish and share content including text, photographs, recipes, meal plans, food inventory data, ratings and reviews (collectively, "Contributions").
Contributions you publish are viewable by other users of the Services.
When you create or make available any Contribution, you represent and warrant that:
- it does not contain allergen information that is false or that could cause harm to people with food allergies or dietary restrictions;
- it does not contain personal information about you or any other person;
- you own it or have the necessary rights to it; and
- it does not breach Section 4.
12. CONTRIBUTION LICENSE
We do not claim ownership of your Contributions. You retain full ownership and all intellectual property rights in them.
By publishing a Contribution you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display and distribute it within the Services, for as long as it remains published, solely for the purpose of operating and providing the Services. This license ends when you un-publish the Contribution or delete your account.
We are not liable for any statement or representation in your Contributions. You are solely responsible for them.
By submitting feedback or suggestions about the Services, you agree we may use and share that feedback for any purpose without compensation.
13. YOUR DATA, EXPORT AND DELETION
We maintain the data you transmit to the Services in order to provide them, and data relating to your use of them. Although we perform routine backups, you are responsible for your own data, and you agree we have no liability for any loss or corruption of it.
Export. You can download a copy of the personal information we hold about your account at any time, from Privacy & Data → Download my data. The file is machine-readable so you can move it to another service.
Deletion. You can delete your account, and the personal information associated with it, from Settings → Security → Delete Account. This is permanent and cannot be undone. What survives deletion, and why, is described in our Privacy Notice.

These Legal Terms remain in full force while you use the Services. WITHOUT LIMITING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF THESE LEGAL TERMS, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO, IN OUR SOLE DISCRETION AND WITHOUT NOTICE OR LIABILITY, DENY ACCESS TO AND USE OF THE SERVICES (INCLUDING BLOCKING CERTAIN IP ADDRESSES) TO ANY PERSON FOR ANY REASON, INCLUDING BREACH OF ANY REPRESENTATION, WARRANTY OR COVENANT CONTAINED IN THESE LEGAL TERMS OR OF ANY APPLICABLE LAW OR REGULATION. WE MAY TERMINATE YOUR USE OR PARTICIPATION IN THE SERVICES OR DELETE ANY CONTENT YOU POSTED AT ANY TIME, WITHOUT WARNING, IN OUR SOLE DISCRETION.

We cannot guarantee the Services will be available at all times. We may experience hardware, software or other problems, or need to perform maintenance, resulting in interruptions, delays or errors. You agree we have no liability for any loss, damage or inconvenience caused by your inability to access or use the Services during downtime or discontinuance.
Moving to our new application
We are replacing the current application with a rebuilt version.
- Your account and your data carry over. Nothing is deleted or transferred to a third party as part of the move.
- The previous version is discontinued at that point, and updating is required to continue using the Services.
- Existing subscriptions continue; you do not need to purchase again.
- Where our Privacy Notice has changed materially, you will be asked to review it.
18. GOVERNING LAW
These Legal Terms are governed by and defined under the laws of the State of Iowa, United States. Doc Bear Enterprises, LLC and you irrevocably consent that the courts of Iowa have exclusive jurisdiction to resolve any dispute arising in connection with these Legal Terms, subject to Section 20 and to any mandatory consumer protection rights you have under the law of your country of residence.
19. EU GEO-BLOCKING COMPLIANCE
European Union access rights
In compliance with the Geo-blocking Regulation (EU) 2018/302, we do not engage in unjustified geo-blocking that discriminates against users based on nationality, place of residence, or place of establishment within the EU.
Service availability
EU-wide access, subject to applicable local laws, technical availability of regional databases, and currency and language localisation capabilities.
We do not: block EU users based on their location within the EU; apply different terms, conditions or pricing based on EU member state residence; or restrict features based on nationality within the EU.
Regional optimisations, not restrictions
Currency display, regional food database prioritisation, language localisation and measurement system preferences are optimisations, not restrictions, and can be manually overridden.
20. DISPUTE RESOLUTION
Informal negotiations
To expedite resolution and control cost, the Parties agree to attempt to negotiate any Dispute informally for at least thirty (30) days before initiating formal proceedings. Informal negotiations commence on written notice from one Party to the other.

Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Legal Terms, including any question regarding its existence, validity or termination, shall be referred to and finally resolved by arbitration. The number of arbitrators shall be one. The seat of arbitration shall be Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The language shall be English. The governing law shall be the substantive law of Iowa.

Any arbitration is limited to the Dispute between the Parties individually. To the extent permitted by law: (a) no arbitration shall be joined with any other proceeding; (b) there is no right or authority for any Dispute to be arbitrated on a class-action basis; and (c) there is no right or authority for any Dispute to be brought in a representative capacity on behalf of the general public or any other persons.
