Doc Bear's Edible Crayons, for the Marines in Your Life
A fun novelty treat made with colored chocolate and pretzel sticks to look like crayons. This humorous gift plays on the Marine Corps joke about crayon-eating and makes a perfect gag gift.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup meltable chocolate Green
- 1 Cup meltable chocolate Yellow
- 1 Cup meltable chocolate Red
- 1 Cup meltable chocolate Blue
- 1 Cup meltable chocolate brown
- 1 pkg pretzel sticks
Instructions
- Lightly spray a crayon shaped silicon mold with cooking spray. Set aside.
- In a large bowl melt the chocolate chips in the microwave according to package instructions or use the following double boiler instructions.
- (This is how I do it) Take a medium sauce pot and fill about ½ way with hot water.
- Bring to a light boil then reduce to a simmer.
- Place chocolate chips into a medium Pyrex bowl (large enough to NOT fall into the pan, but small enough that the bottom and about an inch and a half sits in the pot.
- When the water stops boiling, place the bowl on top of the pot and allow the steam to heat the bowl and melt the chips.
- Stir the chips constantly so that the cooler chips are rotated to the bottom and allowed to melt.
- Once all the chips are melted and the chocolate is nice a creamy, continue.
- Using a spoon pour the melted chocolate into the mold about halfway. Take pretzel sticks and lay them in the chocolate. Continue filling the mold with chocolate to cover the pretzel.
- A light shake or tapping will allow the chocolate to get into any tight spots.
- Place in freezer for about 5 to 10 minutes. Remove any excess moisture that accumulated. Pop out of the mold and place on a platter.
- Continue until all chocolate and colors are used. Give these crayons to your favorite Marine to enjoy.
